8:00 PM - 9:00 PMZoom

"Israeli Art from Founding until the Present," a Zoom program is presented by Gili Sherman, the visual arts teacher at Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School.

Gili leads adult art workshops and art history lesson (such as ours) addition to teaching art. With degrees in Graphic Design and Journalism, Gili has lived in Israel and worked as a creative director in a Tel Aviv advertising firm.  She is fluent in Hebrew and enjoys integrating Hebrew words and phrases into her art lessons.

And, from the presenter, a description of the program:

Israel has been labeled “Innovation Nation,” but in the realm of the visual arts, Israel could also be dubbed: “The Courageously Creative Country!”

For our Tour of Israeli Art, we will explore six exceptional artists. We will begin with the painters, Nachum Gutman and Reuven Rubin, who helped to fashion the unique Sabra identity in the early days of the state. We will then transition to the painter Mordecai Ardon, and photographer, David Rubinger, with his iconic Six Day War image of the Israeli soldiers arriving at the Western Wall. Then, we will learn more about contemporary Israel through the work of the environmental sculptors, Ran Morin and Sigalit Landau.

We will get an opportunity to talk with one another and to share our reflections on what we have observed. I look forward to meeting you and to being your tour guide for this fascinating journey into the art of Israel!
