Hanukkah Oyfn Pripetchik Concert

Sunday, December 11, 2022 17 Kislev 5783

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

With cold weather descending upon us, the warmth and comfort of a fireplace is most welcome. One of the most beloved Jewish songs of all time is the Yiddish song “Oyfn Pripetchik.” It is usually translated as “At the Fireplace,” even though pripetchik literally means oven. Pripetchik also means hearth; the center of a shtetl home where the fireplace provided heat and cooking was done.

Written by poet and composer Mark Warshawsky, the song was first published in a 1900 collection of Warshawsky's songs describing Jewish life in the Russian Empire.

In celebration of Hanukkah, Cantor Figa and Aaron Bernstein will share this song and other seasonal favorites in a little concert that will be called “Hanukkah Oyfn Pripetchik” which will hopefully warm your spirits.
