Dear Friends,
What is Midrash? Midrash conveys the wisdom and imagination of the ancient rabbis as they created a whole world of thought and experience between the terse verses of the Torah. What were Abraham and Isaac thinking as they headed to the binding of Isaac? What was Moses doing for 40 days and nights on top of Mount Sinai? How did King Solomon truly build the Temple?
If the laws have always been the guiding commandments, traditions and customs of our people, the Midrash represents the stories that form the rich and beautiful background to much of how Jews think, act, believe, and walk in the world.
Facing the destruction of the 2nd Temple, the Rabbis renewed Judaism largely through the power of their ability to reimagine, and through their creativity and stories.
With Passover behind us and walking toward Mount Sinai and Shavuot, join us as we begin a new class on Midrash this Thursday at 10 am.
We will be using Sefer Ha’Aggadah by Hayyim Nahman Bialik. Every class we will discuss one midrash and how it impacts our lives and our Judaism.
In person and on Zoom ID# 990 415 095 with the usual HZ password.
Sincerely,
Rabbi Adir Glick
