Wednesday, April 7, 2021 25 Nisan 5781

6:30 PM - 7:30 PMMeeting ID# 873 0750 8627

Please join us this Wednesday at 6:30 PM as Temple Har Zion and Oak Park Temple join together online to commemorate Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Rememberance Day. There will be a short commemoration with readings, songs, and prayers, including songs done by Mamaloshen. Our speaker will be Alexander Wilde, the father of Temple Har Zion member Mike Wilde.

Alexander Wilde was born in Vienna in 1923. When he was 15, his life changed dramatically with the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany and the ouster of Jewish students from Vienna’s schools. Shortly after Kristallnacht, Wilde escaped to Britain on the first Kindertransport in December 1938 – truly “into the arms of strangers”. Later, through the righteousness and generosity of one of those strangers, his parents were miraculously able to join him. They came to the United States on Columbus Day, 1940, and made their way to Chicago. Wilde served in the US Army during WWII, and then attended Roosevelt University and the University of Chicago. With his wife Barbara they raised their family in Rogers Park. Alex and Barbara now live in Burlington, Vermont, and their family stretches from coast to coast.
